Hope (Psalms 42 and 43)
Lyrics written by Dan Anguis
Defend me oh God
And plead my cause
Against a Godless nation
For you are my (only) haven
Why have you forsaken me?
Why must I wander in darkness
Send forth your light and truth
Let these be my guide
Rescue me from evil
They taunt me they do
Words pierce through me like a fatal wound!
Asking where can this god of yours be?
How can you trust in what you can not see!
But still I have hope; forever I'll sing
To My Lord my savior, my God and my king
Pour out your grace upon me
Background
This was one of the first songs I ever wrote. I saw the Psalm in a Magnificat (I think) that was given to me by my friend. I had the opening riff written for a long time, it came to me as I was leaving adoration one night. Then one day during adoration at San Gabriel Mission, my friends and I were the only ones in the church and I decided to try and sing over the riff using the words from the psalm and that gave birth to hope. --Dan
